Abstract:

Pigment epithelium derived factor(PEDF)is a type of 50 kDa secretory glycoprotein with a variety of biological effects and physiological activities, including anti ⁃angiogenesis, anti ⁃tumor and neurotrophic activities. Since the discovery of PEDF in 1987,many studies have confirmed that PEDF or its polypeptide frag⁃ ments have the potential to treat a variety of diseases, especially those with pathological changes such as neovascu⁃ larization, nerve injury and tumor. Corneal diseases often accompanied with neovascular infiltration, inflammatory reaction, and nerve damage. At present, the application of PEDF in the treatment of corneal diseases has gradually become a research hotspot. This paper reviews the research progress in this area.
