Guidelines for Submission to the Journal of Practical Medicine
The Journal of Practical Medicine (JPM) is a comprehensive medical academic journal through double-blind peer review published semi-monthly. It is under the supervision of the Health Commission of Guangdong Province and the sponsorship of the Guangdong Medical Academic Exchange Center. JPM, first published in 1972, is an open-access journal with ISSN 1006-5725 and CN 44-1193/R. It is listed as one of the Chinese Science and Technology Journal Excellence Action Plan Tier Journals,Peking University Overview of Chinese Core Journals (for the past 6 editions) as well as one of the Chinese Science and Technology Core Journals (Journals of Chinese Science and Technology Paper Statistical Sources). It has been indexed in the World Journal Clout Reports (WJCI) for four consecutive editions (2020-2024) and rated as a Top-quality Chinese Science and Technology Journal in the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth editions. It is also classified as an A+ journal in the RCCSE (Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation) Core Academic Journal List. In 2015, it was recognized as one of the One Hundred Outstanding Academic Journals in China. Additionally, it has been rated consecutively as a Top-quality Science and Technology Journal as well as an Excellent Science and Technology Journal in Guangdong Province for years. The journal is included in the Chinese Top-quality Science and Technology Journal F5000, WHO Western Pacific Regional Medical Index (WPRIM), Chemical Abstracts (CA), EBSCO database, Japan Science and Technology Agency database (JST), China Biomedical Literature Database, CNKI, Wanfang Data, CQVIP, and several other databases.
The journal mainlyreports medical research results, clinical practices, and practical new technologies and methods from all over China. The journal covers various sections such as guidelines and practices, commentaries,focused discussions, special reports, clinical advances, basic research, clinical research, drugs and clinical practice, medical examination and clinical diagnosis, survey research, modernization of Traditional Chinese Medicine, clinical nursing, reviews, new technologies and methods, clinical experiences, and case reports.
1 Submission Requirements
1.1 Verification Documents: Manuscripts for submission must be reviewed and approved by the corresponding author's affiliated institution, along with a cover letter and authorization letter. The cover letter and authorization letter should be issued by the institution that holds the intellectual property rights of the research (e.g., the institution founding the research project, the institution from which the cases in the study came). In the case of a multi-center study, the cover letter and authorization letter can be issued by the affiliated institution of the principal investigator of the research or of the corresponding author. The affiliated institute takes charge of assessing the authenticity of the manuscript, ensuring no confidentiality issues, confirming undisputed authorship, ensuring no infringement, and checking for any duplicate submissions. If the research is funded, a copy of the funding approval documents (the cover page of the funding project contract and the list of project personnel) should be provided. Additionally, a conflict of interest statement and an author contribution statement must be provided in both English and Chinese on the first page of the paper. For studies involving human subjects, it should be stated whether the research procedures comply with the ethical standards set by theethics committee (at the institutional or regional level) and stipulated in the “Ethical Review Measures for Life Science and Medical Research Involving Humans", and whether it has obtained an approval from the ethics committee. The personal safety and health rights of the subjects should be placed in a position of priority: the informed consent from the subjects or their relatives should be obtained, and the privacy of the subjects should be protected. For studies involving animals, inhumane treatment of animals is prohibited, and the health and safety of the researchers should be ensured as well.
1.2 General Requirements: Manuscripts for submission should be scientific, practical, and innovative. Authors are responsible for the authenticity and scientific validity of their manuscripts. The arguments in the submitted manuscripts should be clear, the information reliable, the data accurate, and the writing concise and coherent. In the case of original research, the manuscript should include a structured abstract in both English and Chinese,keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and references. The format for articles in the main sections of JPM can be found in the paper template on the JPM official website.
1.3 Title: The title should be accurate, concise, easy to read, and conform to word usage standards. Generally, it should not exceed the number of 20 Chinese characters.
1.4 Authors: The authors listed in the paper should meet the following criteria: participation in the research work, contribution to the formation of important innovative and substantial content, understanding of the entire research process, familiarity with the full content of the paper, approval of the final version of the paper to be published, including the claiming of contributions of all authors, agreement to be listed as authors, acceptance of the role and order of authorship, and willingness to take responsibility as an author. The authorship order should be determined at the time of submission and should not be changed after submission. In case of necessary changes, a written statement of agreement with no dispute regarding authorship, signed by all authors, along with a certification from the institution, must be provided.
1.5 Abstract: The manuscripts for submission must include abstracts in both Chinese and English. The abstract for original research articles should include the following four elements: Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. The Results section should present the main data. The abstract for review articles should follow an indicative abstract format.
1.6 Keywords: For original research articles, 3 to 8 keywords should be provided, preferably using terms from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) of the National Library of Medicine (of America) and the Classified Chinese Thesaurus (referred to as descriptors or subject terms).
1.7 Introduction: The section of introduction covers a brief description of the research background, current status, necessity, objectives, innovative aspects, and significance, without any headings or order numbers.
1.8 Materials and Methods: In this section, the selection criteria for the study subjects, general information, major clinical characteristics, grouping situations, and experimental materials should be clearly explain, and the instruments, equipment, and drug reagents used should be described. In the part of methods, the research procedures, observation items, and statistical analysisshould be outlined.
1.9 Results: In this section, the results, including the observational results, therapeutic effects, follow-up outcomes, and the results of statistical analyses, should be narrated in a truthful, accurate, and specific manner.
1.10 Discussion: The discussion should involve explanation of the results, appropriate literature comparisons, reasonable deduction of conclusions, and proper evaluation. The discussion should be closely related to the research results.
1.11 References: References should be from official, recent publications. They should be presented in the order of their appearance and should be formatted in the style shown below. They must be consistent with the citations in the manuscript. Authors should avoid citing secondary literature and abstracts.

[Book] Authors. Title. Edition (omitted when first edition). Location: publisher, year. Start page-end page.
1.12 Figures and Tables: Figures and tables should be concise and self-explanatory. Each figure and table should be coded in the order of appearance in the main text. Each figure and table should have its own title, and the title should be limited to a maximum of 30 words. Explanatory text should be placed in the annotation below the figure or table, and any abbreviations used in the figure or table should be clearly indicated in the annotation. Tables should be presented using three horizontal lines, and the number of decimal places for the data of the same indicator within a table should be consistent. Images should be clear. If portraits are used, written consent from the individuals involved should be obtained, or the parts that can identify the person should be covered. Macroscopic specimen photographs should include a scale marker. As for pathological photographs, the staining methodand magnificationshould be indicated, and the image resolution should be at least 300 dpi.
1.13 Statistical Methods: Select appropriate statistical analysis methods based onthe research design, available data conditions, and analysis objectives. Specify the specific name of the statistical analysis method and the specific values of the statistical parameters used.
1.14 Foreign symbols: Foreign symbols should be in the correct format, including upper or lower case and normal, italicized, superscripted, or subscripted text.
2. Manuscript Submission and Handling
2.1 Submission: Please log in to the official website of JPM, http://www.syyxzz.com/, and submit your manuscript online through the “Author Submission” section, following the format and requirements of the journal. We will provide a reply within 2 months, and authors can check the status of their manuscript on the website.
2.2The payment:Each submission must pay a review payment of 50 yuan. After the manuscript has been reviewed and decided for publication, the journal will notify the author separately and charge a layout payment. The electronic invoice will be sent to the first author's email address within one week of receiving the fee.
2.3 Peer Review: We adopt a double-blind peer-review process with three reviews by experts in the field.The selection of reviewer is discretedby full-time editors.. The comments and suggestions (acceptance/rejection/amendments) received from reviewers will be conveyed to the corresponding author. If it is required, the author is requested to provide a point-by-point response to reviewers’ comments and submit a revised version of the manuscript. If you have received a receipt of submission from our journal and have not received a notice of rejection but wish to submit your manuscript elsewhere, please contact us first to avoid multiple submissions.
2.4 Copyright: Once your manuscript is accepted by our journal, the exclusive rights of use of the paper will belong to the editorial office of the journal after the author signs the copyright transfer agreement. The editorial office has the right to publish the paper in electronic journals, CD-ROM editions, WeChat, or other mediums. Without the consent of the editorial office, no part of the paper should be reproduced elsewhere. The authors of the manuscript are responsible for the content. According to the relevant provisions of the “Copyright Law of the People's Republic of China,” the editorial office may make textual modifications and deletions to the manuscript and any modifications that may affect the original meanings will be returned back to the authors for their considerations.
2.4 Author Information: Please provide detailed contact information, including correspondence address, telephone number, and email, for all authors.
2.5 Handling of Manuscripts that Do Not Comply with Publishing Standards and Ethics: The Practical Medical Journal obeys COPE Retraction Guidelines. If it is discovered that a manuscript has been submitted to multiple journals or if there is plagiarism or any other violation of publishing standards and ethical guidelines, the editorial office is entitled to immediately reject the submission and if the paper has already been published, the editorial office has the right to retract it. In serious cases, the editorial office will notify the author's institution and other scientific journals in the field, and furthermore any manuscripts submitted within 2 years with the same first author will be rejected.
