Abstract:

Sepsis is a serious organ dysfunction syndrome caused by a host′s imbalance in response to infection. It has a high incidence rate and high mortality rate. Sepsis can seriously damage the epithelial tissue especially the intestinal epithelium. On the contrary, the damage of intestinal barrier will lead to the translocation of intestinal bacteria and endotoxin, which will aggravate sepsis. At present, there is no systematic and in⁃depth literature on the mechanism of intestinal barrier dysfunction in sepsis. From the perspective of intestinal epithelial cell, inflammation, immunity, microcirculation, coagulation function, intestinal enzymatic response, intestinal flora and short chain fatty acids(SCFAs),this paper systematically and deeply summarizes the molecular mecha⁃ nism of intestinal barrier dysfunction in sepsis and the role of intestinal barrier dysfunction in sepsis in recent 10 years,in order to provide theoretical basis and new therapeutic targets for clinical and drug development to treat sepsis from the protection of intestinal barrier.
