Abstract:

Objective To study the efficacy of sublingual desensitization therapy(SLIT)in children with allergic rhinitis. Methods 151 pediatric patients were selected in accordance with the guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinitis and divided into two groups according to the treatment wishes of the patients and their parents. The control group received a conventional therapy with cetirizine hydrochloride plus azelastine hydrochloride nasal spray, and the study group received the same conventional therapy in addition to sublingual desensitization. The efficacy was assessed by TMS and TNSS in both groups 3,6 and 12 months after treatment. Results After 3 months of treatment, there were no evident differences between the study group and the control group in symptom score, sign score, and drug score, while after six⁃month treatment, the symptom score, sign score, and drug score were significantly different between the study group and the control group(P < 0.05). Conclusions Sublingual desensitization therapy is effective in the treatment of children with allergic rhinitis and has a lower recurrence rate and shows a better efficacy initially after 6⁃month treatment, providing different options for children with allergic rhinitis.
