Objective Based on the success in preparation of vancomycin⁃incorporated PLGA/TCP scaf⁃ fold, its effect of repair infected femur defects in goats was evaluated. Methods A goat model of infected femur defects was established and the goats were randomly assigned to three groups. The experimental group 1 was implanted with vancomycin⁃incorporated PLGA/TCP scaffold, the control group 1 was implanted with antibiotic⁃PMMA(poly⁃ methyl methacrylate)and the control group 2 was served as a blank control group. White blood cells(WBC),erythro⁃ cyte sedimentation rate(ESR)and C⁃reactive protein(CRP)were detected at different time points. The content and antibacterial activity of vancomycin were detected in local tissues. X ⁃ ray and hematoxylin ⁃eosin(HE)stain were performed to assess biodegradation of the scaffold and bone reconstruction. Results All of the animals survived. The experimental group 1 and the control group 1 had better anti ⁃infective effect. As compared with the blank control group,ESR and CRP were significantly lower in the other two groups at weeks 4,8 and 12 after operation(P < 0.05). Besides, the experimental group 1 showed more biodegradation and bone reconstruction than the control group (P < 0.05). As compared with the control group, the degree of inflammatory reaction was less in the experimental group 1 and the control group 1. Conclusions The composite vancomycin⁃incorporated PLGA/TCP porous scaffold can not only be added anti⁃infective drugs, but also customize implant materials according to the shape of femur defects. The efficacy of anti⁃infection is hopefully achieved,
