Prevalence and influencing factors of depression and anxiety in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome

Abstract

Objective To investigate the incidence of anxiety and depression in PCOS patients in Guang⁃dong Women and Children′s Hospital and analyze the risk factors of the disease so as to provide guidance forclinical treatment. Methods PCOS patients who were admitted to the Guangdong Women and Children Hospitalfrom August 2017 to February 2019 were selected as subjects for the survey using GAD⁃7,PHQ⁃9 Symptom Check⁃list and Sleep Questionnaire. The patient′s mental state and sleep quality were assessed,and the patient′s generalclinical data and blood biochemical indicators were collected for analysis. Results Of the 262 patients enrolled,80(30.5%)had anxiety disorder and 76(29.0%)had depressive disorder. Sleep disorders(OR = 3.544,95%CI:1.641 ~ 7.652)was an independent risk factor for the depression in patients with PCOS. Sleep disorders(OR =3.938,95%CI:1.804 ~ 8.597)and WHR(OR = 94.904,95%CI:1.328 ~ 6 780.675)were independent risk factorsfor anxiety in patients with PCOS. Conclusion Patients with PCOS are prone to comorbid anxiety and depression.Sleep disorders is an independent risk factor for the onset of depression and anxiety in patients with PCOS. Waist⁃to⁃hip ratio is an independent risk factor for the onset of anxiety in patients with PCOS. Clinicians should pay attentionto the screening of anxiety and depression among PCOS patients.
