Interleukin⁃22（IL⁃22），produced by the CD4 + T cell subpopulation，plays a role in host defense and epithelial protection. As a pro⁃inflammatory cytokine，IL⁃22 plays an important role in airway inflam⁃ mation in asthma. Meanwhile，IL ⁃22 can aggravate subepithelial fibrosis，promote EMT，increase mucus secre⁃ tion，and hyperplasia and hypertrophy of airway smooth muscle，thus aggravating airway remodeling in asthma. As a pro⁃inflammatory and pro⁃fibrogenic factor，the specific mechanism of IL⁃22 in airway remodeling in asthma is still unclear. This article reviews the role of IL⁃22 in airway remodeling in asthma.
