Abstract

Allergic asthma is a chronic inflammatory airway disease characterized by over-activation of T helper 2 (Th2) cells in response to harmless air allergens. With high incidence and relapse rates, allergic asthma severely affects the life quality of patients. Dendritic cell (DC) plays important roles in initiating and maintaining Th2-mediated immune response during allergic asthma development, but the mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, it is important to study the function and underlying mechanism of DC in the pathogenesis of allergic asthma. We summarize the latest progress of immunometabolism, cytokines, and epigenetics in regulating DC function and DC-mediated Th2 immune responses, to direct the pathogenesis of allergic asthma. Further understanding the mechanisms by which DC regulates allergic asthma will provide new strategies for the treatment of allergic asthma.
